Suicide Prevention Awareness Month
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. It is a crucial time dedicated to raising awareness, educating students and staff, and fostering a supportive environment around mental health on college campuses. During this week, most college campuses host activities and events to address the unique challenges faced by the college students. Below are examples of campaign materials, websites, and digital toolkits to support your school during Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.
Campaign Examples
-
- It’s OK to Say Suicide – The Jed Foundation: This campaign encourages people to talk openly about suicide, whether they’re thinking about it themselves, worried about someone else, or unsure how to discuss it. It reassures that it’s OK to say the word “suicide” and emphasizes that talking about it can help people get the support they need. The campaign includes videos and shareable social media graphics that can be used to promote awareness and resources.
- Boise State’s Annual Suicide Prevention Week: In their campaign, “Here for You,” Boise State invites their students to join events to de-stress such as ‘Puppies and Popsicles + Chalk the Walk.’ During these events, Boise students are connected to resources on campus, increasing visibility.
